Final Post

Strategy 1-predicting: Throughout this novel many would expect a different outcome in the end. My classmates and I had discussions of what we thought would happen in the novel. This would help us understand what really happened in the novel. After figuring out the answer to a certain mystery, we’d think “Oh, so that was what they were doing” or “That person did know.” It would make us understand more because it would be clear what we were reading because we cared to make the prediction and we wanted to know what would happen.
Strategy 2-questioning: Before predicting we’d question what was going to happen, or what choice a certain character was going to make. When we question, we usually make sure we find the answer to our question. So, once we did in the book we’d understand it more because we’d discuss that certain part a lot because we had a question about it.
Strategy 3-visualizing: Most people visualize the characters and objects in a book that they read. As I did this it helped me understand what was going on and who was doing what, and where people were instead of just reading what people said and hearing their voices.
Strategy 4- summarizing: I usually summarize what has happened in a book up to the point that I’ve read after reading a few chapters. This helps me keep track of the characters and not get confused with who said what, or forget what happened.
Strategy 5-reflecting: Reflecting helps me develop more of my created opinions created while reading the book so I can decide whether I like certain characters (if I hadn’t already decided so), and also change past opinions after discussing the novel with classmates.

Perspectives

I'm going to place myself in Catalina's shoes. If I were her, I'd at first ignore Bethany and her friends because I wouldn't give them the time. But then I'd do something like what she's done, by putting that paper about herself out to everyone, or I'd tell people what was in the paper. But I'd also make sure something was said to Bethany so she wouldn't think that she was the queen of Darkland, and that way no one would be afraid of her.

In Catalina's shoe's I'd feel sad like she does at first, but also angry, or maybe just disappointed. But I'd make sure that my feelings in the end would equal to some kind of happiness, so if what I said I would do didn't work, I'd try something else.

Keeping Quiet

When a person in the legal care of their parents is caused a problem, I believe that parents, or any adult, should take a type of action when the problem is as severe as Russel's when he's punched by Richie. This is because adults create a cushion for kids when they're in trouble. Maybe, because children can still make their own choices, parents can't remove them from an uncomfortable part of life, or put out a fire, but they can keep them farther from the fire, or give them a pillow if they have to sleep on the floor. Enough of the metaphors. What I'm trying to say is that kids, especially at my age, can't solve problems on their own, and adults who think that they're child can need to read more detailed books, because they wouldn't have know anything about parenting.

I think that Russell's mother wasn't doing her job when, even though she did something, she didn't follow-up after talking to the principle about Russell's situation. It's not an everyday thing that a kid gets dropped off a bridge by classmates, and even though that's not what happened to Russell, I think that Russell's mother should have done more that "not nothing".
